Arburg repair in Illinois

Allrounders for precision molding

Arburg, the German injection molding machine builder from Lossburg, makes the Allrounder machines that are common in Illinois precision molders, medical molders, electronics and connector molders and custom molders. You’ll find hydraulic, hybrid and all-electric Allrounders, vertical machines for insert molding, multi-component machines and Multilift robots across the Chicago area.

LocalSpindle techs work on Arburg machines, including the hydraulics, servo drives, heats, injection units, clamps, controls and robots.

Precision molding and tight processes

Arburg machines are often used for small, precise parts, where small changes in shot weight, temperature or timing show up as defects. In that kind of work, the machine has to repeat exactly, and drift in shot weight or cycle time often points to a machine problem rather than a process problem.

When an Arburg starts drifting, we check the injection unit (screw, check ring and barrel), heats and thermocouples, the hydraulic or servo system, and the machine’s calibration. Once the machine is right, we help you confirm that the process is back where it should be.

Selogica and Gestica controls

Arburg machines use Selogica controls on many machines and Gestica controls on newer ones. Both have detailed diagnostics, alarm histories and data logging. Common control problems include display and touch screen failures, I/O and communication faults, and data and software issues. We back up machine data before working on the control.

Hydraulic, hybrid and electric Allrounders

Hydraulic Allrounders have pumps, valves and cylinders that wear with age. Hybrid machines combine electric and hydraulic drives. All-electric Allrounders use servo motors and ballscrews, and their problems often involve drives, motors, encoders, ballscrews and lubrication. We work on all three, testing pressures, drives and motors to find what’s actually failing.

Vertical and insert molding

Arburg vertical machines are used for insert and overmolding, often with rotary tables and robots or operators loading inserts. Their common problems include rotary table indexing, insert detection sensors, mold safety and clamp issues. We troubleshoot the machine and the automation around it.

Multilift robots and the cell

Arburg Multilift robots remove parts and runners and load inserts. Robot problems often stop the machine because the machine waits on the robot’s signals. We troubleshoot the robot, the machine and the signals between them, along with dryers, temperature controllers and conveyors.

Medical molding and documentation

Many Arburg machines run medical work in validated processes. In that environment, a repair has to be documented carefully and fit into your change control. We describe what we plan to do before starting, document what we found and what we replaced, and tell you if a setting or program was touched so your quality team can review it.

Precision molding

Small machines, tight tolerances

Arburgs often run small, precise parts where a small change in shot size or temperature is scrap. That makes heater, thermocouple and screw condition especially important.

Selogica controls are detailed and log a lot. We read the logs to separate machine faults from process drift.

Example service call

Arburg medical molder with weight drift

The call

A medical parts molder in Carol Stream saw shot weights drift on an Arburg Allrounder.

What we did

  1. Phone. Shot weight drift often comes from the check ring or temperature.
  2. On site. The check ring was worn and leaking back.
  3. Fix. Replaced the check ring and inspected the screw.
  4. Check. Ran production and checked weights.

The result. Weights stable.

Arburg habits

01

Track shot weights

Weight drift is the earliest warning of screw wear.

02

Keep heaters and thermocouples in good shape

Small machines are sensitive to temperature.
